A Frontview Camera will require calibration under certain conditions, including if it was replaced, or if it was removed from the bracket and reinstalled.
During a Q&A session at an industry conference earlier this year, a collision repairer asked GM for more complete support on Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) repairs and calibrations for GM vehicles. GM took this idea and went to work, collaborating with engineers to develop a document that was reviewed by industry experts. As a result, GM has made this information available to support repair work on vehicles that include an ADAS.
After completing repair work on a vehicle that’s equipped with an ADAS — such as Forward Collision Alert, Rear Park Assist or Adaptive Cruise Control — it may be necessary to calibrate the system to ensure that it’s operating properly.
An ADAS utilizes various cameras and/or radar sensors located in different areas of the vehicle — such as the grille, the front and rear bumpers or fascias, or on the inside portion of the windshield — to alert drivers when a potential collision risk exists. That’s why it’s important to make sure these systems are functioning properly after conducting any collision-related diagnosis, repair or part replacement that may involve ADAS components.
The new ADAS information can be found at:

- Genuine GM Parts, beginning July 1 (CLICK HERE)
The following chart shows some examples of when a calibration procedure may be required on a given ADAS. Unless otherwise noted, the calibration should be performed using GDS2. Of course, refer to the appropriate Service Information document for specific calibration instructions and for any additional programming that may be needed.

NOTES
Frontview Camera-Windshield Located on the inner portion of the windshield, near the rearview mirror. Works with Forward Collision Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking and other systems.
- If the camera-windshield was replaced
- If the camera was removed from the bracket and reinstalled
- If the windshield was replaced, or removed and reinstalled
- After a collision repair or air bag deployment
- If any of the following DTCs are set in the Frontview Camera-Windshield: DTC B1008 - Calibration Data or DTC B395D - Camera Misaligned
- If the DTC B101E— Electronic Control Unit Software — is set
SPS programming is required after replacement. Some vehicles will immediately begin calibration after programming while others may require
calibration to be started using GDS2. Refer to Service Information for specific programming and calibration instructions after replacement.
Always refer to the appropriate diagnostic procedure in Service Information when diagnosing DTCs.
Long-Range Radar Sensor Module Typically mounted in the center grille area behind the brand emblem. May also be located behind the lower fascia on some models. Works with Super Cruise, Forward Collision Alert, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking and other systems.
- If the module was replaced, or was removed and reinstalled
- After a collision repair or air bag deployment
- If the DTC B390C — Long-Range Radar Sensor Module — is set in the Active Safety Control Module
Always refer to the appropriate diagnostic procedure in Service Information when diagnosing DTCs.
Curb View Camera – Analog Usually located in the front fascia or grille, the camera provides a view of the scene immediately ahead of the vehicle on the infotainment display to help drivers avoid curbs, poles, parked vehicles and other objects.
- If the camera was replaced, or removed and reinstalled
- If the fascia, grille, or camera-mounting location was removed or replaced
Short-Range Radar Sensor Module Typically mounted on the left and right side of the front fascia and may also be used in the left and right side of the rear fascia. Works with Super Cruise, Forward Collision Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking and others.
- No calibration required
SPS programming is required after replacement. Refer to Service Information for specific instructions.
Surround Vision – Analog Cameras located in the front grille or fascia area, left outside rearview mirror, right outside rearview mirror, and at the rear center of the vehicle. Some systems may have additional cameras for the pickup bed as well as provisions for trailer cameras.
- If any of the camera was replaced, or was removed and reinstalled
- If the fascia, grille, bumper, applique, outside rearview mirror, or Surround Vision camera-mounting locations were removed or replaced.
SPS programming is required after replacement. Refer to Service Information for specific instructions.
Surround Vision – Digital
- No calibration required
