TAILGATE MALFUNCTION MAY BE CAUSED BY DISABLING INNER GATE

The Chevrolet Multi-Flex Tailgate and GMC MultiPro Tailgate blend function and flexibility by helping improve loading, unloading and access to the trucks’ cargo box.

They include a primary gate and an inner gate, both of which are released using buttons on the tailgate. (The primary gate can also be released using the key fob or pressing a button on the instrument panel.)

If you encounter difficulties with the tailgate’s operation, it may be because the inner gate has been disabled, perhaps inadvertently by the owner or during a repair. It is equipped with an enable/disable feature to help prevent it from being opened when a hitch or other equipment is in proximity. It is disabled by pressing and holding the button on the tailgate for three seconds, with the key fob within 3 feet of the rear bumper.

To enable the inner tailgate, press and hold the upper button on the tailgate for three seconds and until the taillamps flash. At this point, the inner gate should be able to be opened separately from the primary gate.
